The word ‘sorry’ was the word of the day on Sunday as the members participated in the Daily Mail Foursomes qualifier. The small field started their rounds in somewhat misty conditions (for some it never improved) but as the day wore on the mist lifted and temperatures sawed into double figures!
For shot of the day, well don’t know how everyone else did but the shot I had the pleasure of watching was Steve Barkers’ recovery on the 9th. Steve’s partner had the good grace to leave Steve standing on the down slope of the 10th tee between the White and Yellow markers. The only shot on was between the two large trees, negotiating the bench, missing the bunker to a pin placement on the left of the green. Impossible! I hear you say, in his usual demeanour, Mr Barker simply manoeuvred the ball low through the trees to the right of the bench, landed the ball just to the right of the bunker, avoiding the rake and nice rolling onto the green, leaving his lucky partner some 10 feet from the pin… Steve it was simply mesmerick!
So to the results! Congratulations go to Steve Barker and the Captain Steve Lythell for winning the Men’s category, with Geraldine Rowe and Denise Beasley taking the honours in the Ladies event.
