Ladies Club Championship

Over the weekend the Manor witnessed the Ladies Club championships, with a good turn out the ladies set about their task on Saturday. Much fun was had by the Ball Spotter on the 10th for many different reasons but the 2 that spring to mind are Clare (5 Putt) Surgeon and Guilia (3 in the water) Lawless. I would however like to say a massive SORRY!!! to Aileen for not being covert enough at the front of the green.

With Day 1 over the leader board showed our Lady Captain (Clare Surgeon) leading by 3 from Judith Heffer who was another 2 shots clear of Pam Tyler.

Day 2 was played in rain on and rain off conditions, this was not reflected in the scores with most improving on day 1. It is time to mention the shot of the tournament, and a massive congratulations to Margaret Surgeon who simply (but not quietly) walked off the 13th tee with an ACE!

So to the result and it is the year of the Captains, following on from Graham Purnells victory in the Mens Club Championship, its time to congratulate our Ladies Captain, well done Clare Surgeon who shot a Nett 67 on Day 2 to win by 13 shots.

Pictured here is Proud Mum Margaret and Proud Daughter Clare - congratulations to you both on your respectvie success.

THEY DID IT - and in record time!

Yes its true - Pictured here (at 4:30am) from left to right are: Steve Coombes (best Mate), Graham Purnell (Captain), Colin McDonald (Vice Captain) and Stuart Lythell (substitute for DAD!) who completed 72 holes in just under 14 hours, and in doing so have raised approx £1100 for the captains charity! The average per round was 3 hrs 12 mins; so no more complaints about slow play! Can we also say a massive thanks to all those who have supported us in our efforts!

Summer Scramble - Late results

There I was; sat at my desk, and along comes this blokey Jeff! Why is my picture not on the blog! My response is not repeatable or printable. So here for the sake of not upsetting him any further are the Summer Scramble winners; Jeff Wright, Steve Dalby; Terry Martinelli and Paul Casey pictured with our Club Captain Graham Purnell!

There were 2 other winners on the day - Kev Cusick (longest drive on the 12th; pictured left)
and Jim Harrod (nearest the pin on the 13th, pictured below). Apparently Kevins shot was a bit special, however, Jim (allegedly) thinned his tee shot and turned away in disgust only for the ball to bury itself into the bottom bank – pop out of its pitch mark and roll to within 2 feet of the pin! Congratulations Jim, all that practice finally paid off!

All Done and Dusted

So the Club Championships came and went, some of us can remember the good, most just the bad. The tails of sorrow still echoing around the Club House as we left, Ricko still boasting about how he was the tallest in his 3 ball; Steve Barker wondering why on earth he stayed sober on Saturday! Mark Riley contemplating that Pink really is not his colour for Day 1, but the farmer Giles look works on Day 2!

Thanks to the green staff, who ensured the course was in excellent condition. Thanks to Oscar and Ben for some excellent pin positions and the pin position sheets (most useful on Saturday; however no so useful on Sunday). As always during these occasions a massive thanks to Bob and Val Walker without whom the weekend would not have been the success it was! And of course by no means least, a thanks to all those members who competed over the weekend, it was refreshing to see everyone participating on both days, irrespective of Day 1's performances!

So we come to the congratulations! The 2007 Club Handicap Champion is Steve Gay, congratulations and thoroughly deserved. Steve finished -8 with a Day 2 round of 64 (gross 83). Steve is pictured being presented with his prize by our Club Captian Graham Purnell.
